Collusion, self-plagiarism and group work
Academic Integrity and Responsible AI
Collusion is working with others on work meant to be individual. Self-plagiarism is resubmitting your own earlier work without permission. Both count as misconduct at most institutions, even though no one else’s words are copied.
In group projects, agree roles in writing, keep a record of who contributed what, and cite each other’s sections correctly when the brief asks for individual reflections.
Example
Reusing three paragraphs from last semester’s essay without telling your instructor is self-plagiarism.
Exercise
If your project is a group project, record members and roles in project settings.
